Multimedia works and paintings inspired by my recent trip to Italy.
New York Series
This work includes drawings and photo snap shots collaged into a painting.
The snap shots are in the Henri Cartier-Brisson tradition of quick shots which document a moment in time.
One can’t fully grasp the fact that billions of digital images are captured every day, especially in iconic places such as New York City. Artists must respond to their digital image library in a unique way.
With these images, I layer drawings and painted elements to respond to my emotion captured by the photo, which is both engaged yet, is as detached as the tourist experience. Contrasts in light and shadow, and shifting scale, and perspectives are what I convey in the final work.
Landscapes
Some of my favourite landscape paintings from recent years.
Playing With Colour
I did a series where I explored the idea of looking at images through a lens of colour blocks. Here are some favourites.
Drawings on Tissue
Recently I created a series of sketches and drawings, mostly delicate christening gowns, baby items, and other lace patterns on tissue paper.
Some are then sewn onto tinted watercolour paper for an interesting effect. Most of these pieces have a history in my family – it’s both an art project and a family tree project.
Ottawa Series
This series features scenes and places from my home town, Ottawa. Quick photos of various spots around town are collaged into a painting to create the finished work of art.
Reflections
A series of painted works exploring the idea of reflection in nature.
Shorelines and Fjords
A series of paintings showcasing the beauty of nature, including the Humber Arm in Newfoundland and a series of European Fjords.
Lunar Probe
Something a little different…I was thinking about space. It looks cold up there, doesn’t it?
I Went for a Walk
Pencil sketches inspired by walks in the woods.
